Account and Authentication Management

Ensuring only authorized access to Institutional Information and IT Resources begins with proper account and authentication management. UC’s Account and Authentication Management Standard, linked to below, defines requirements regarding account access, including but not limited to: developing and changing passphrases, multifactor authentication and maintaining and deleting accounts. Appendix A, Password and Passphrase Guidance, offers helpful information for all UC users.

Units should use this Standard in conjunction with UC's information security policy, BFB-IS-3 Electronic Information Security. Following the requirements in this Standard ensures good security practices that help minimize cyber risk.

This Standard applies to all accounts, passphrases (passwords) and other authentication methods used at or on behalf of UC to access Institutional Information or IT Resources.
