Account and Authentication Management

Ensuring only authorized access to Institutional Information and IT Resources begins with proper account and authentication management. UC’s Account and Authentication Management Standard, linked to below, defines requirements regarding account access, including but not limited to: developing and changing passphrases, multifactor authentication and maintaining and deleting accounts. The standard's appendix also offers helpful information on creating passphrases for all UC users.

Units should use this standard in conjunction with UC's information security policy, IS-3. Following its requirements ensures good security practices that help minimize cyber risk.

This standard applies to all accounts, passphrases (passwords) and other authentication methods used at or on behalf of UC to access Institutional Information or IT Resources. For information about cybersecurity resources near you, visit Location Information Security Resources.
